Foraging for Juniper Berries

for food & herbal medicine

It's a good thing juniper trees can be found just about everywhere. From homemade gin to seasoning your favorite dish, juniper berries have many uses.

How to identify juniper

Depending on the species, juniper trees can have scale like leaves or pointed needles

Juniper's have a "gin-like"  fragrance that can't be mistaken.

The “berries” of juniper trees are actually fleshy cones & not berries at all.  They're often covered in a white coating of yeast

Juniper berries can help improve skin conditions & make an excellent infused oil

or they can be used in all kinds of recipes like sauerkraut or in your own homemade herbal gin
