Ramps, sometimes called wild leeks, are easy to identify in spring and can be harvested sustainably. The garlicky flavor of ramps will enhance all your favorite dishes!

Ramps are native to eastern North America & widespread across much of the eastern part of the US

Ramp season runs from March - June, making them one of the earliest plants to forage in the spring

To identify, look for plants 4-12" from the ground that have 1-3 broad leaves per plant & white or reddish-purple stems

If it doesn't smell like an onion, it’s not a ramp!

To harvest sustainably, it's best to only take one leaf per plant without pulling up the bulb

Wild ramps have two deadly toxic look-alikes & neither smell like onion. The first being, False Hellebore (pictured)

& Lily of the Valley, which produce bell-shaped flowers

Use wild ramps in homemade pesto or any other recipe that will benefit from a bright garlic flavor
